Data Science for Property & Construction Professionals – an introduction to Jupyter Notebooks – ‘taster session’

Proptech Analytics has teamed up with data science and machine-learning expert Dr Noureddin Sadawi to deliver a series of events to introduce data science and the use of Jupyter Notebooks to property and construction professionals.

The initial three ‘Introduction to…’ sessions will show the attendees the basics of using Jupyter Notebooks, and highlight how powerful and versatile they can be. Further sessions will be run to cover more advanced topics – including data visualisation, machine-learning, Pandas library, interactive plotting, mapping of data – and many more…

The sessions will be practical and hands-on, and the speakers will run the sessions using Jupyter Notebooks. The Notebooks used for the training parts of the sessions will be made available to the attendees. Attendees can choose to take either an active role and follow along with some of the coding – or just sit back and watch!

In this free ‘taster session’ you will be able to see if the format of the seminars will suit your learning style, and if you would like to sign up for the next sessions in the series.

We will start with the very basics, including the loading of Jupyter Notebooks, via the Anaconda Navigator environment – and a tour of the basics of the python language – and how it can be used to create some great data projects. The focus will be on property and construction – so we will show you where to find relevant data, and run some real-life data projects. We will also provide details of useful other resources – including sources of data, good books to read, and links to useful websites and YouTube tutorials.

Richard Winson is a Chartered Surveyor (FRICS), with over 30 years industry experience. For the last 18 years, he has specialised in lending risk, due-diligence, and corporate recovery – providing advice to insolvency practitioners, lenders, and property developers. He has a masters degree in ‘Big Data in Culture & Society’ from King’s College, London. He founded Proptech Analytics, and has run a number of webinars and training sessions on lending and development risk.

Dr Noureddin Sadawi is a highly experienced and versatile computer scientist and programmer. He holds a PhD in computer science from a world class university and he is experienced in machine learning and data science. Noureddin is the winner of two international scientist programming competitions.

He is comfortable with several computer programming languages but his favourite is Python. As a Pythonista, he encourages users to use Python whenever possible due to the power and ease of the language. He has taught Python numerous times and at different levels (from beginner to advanced).
